Environmental Portrait, Boston MA

This simple location portrait was done for an editorial client in downtown Boston recently. Whenever possible I like to use some natural light in my magazine photography.Although we've lit her face to look fabulous, the background is all daylight. I concentrate on getting people to relax during photo shoots and like her sense of ease.

Cambridge Ma Location Portraits

Most businesses require a pretty serious scouting in order to find an appropriate location to shoot. This factory was no different as it was filled with loud, dirty equipment. I like how his jacket compliments the other tones within the photo.

Boston University Admissions Photos

This Boston University student worked at the Marriott Hotel in Boston, MA. I was asked to shoot in her co-op environment for a Boston University admissions piece. A big part of the Marriott business is meetings, therefore we elected to show her within the conference area of the hotel. By adding a tiny bit of blur in some photos, (not all!)I was able to suggest the energy and excitement our subject felt working in such an active business.

Boston Corporate Execs, Informal Poses

In some cases client want to show their employees in a more informal way, as if they are interacting with clients or colleagues. The beauty of this photographic reportage style is the ability to get a variety of looks out of one session. A huge benefit is that your subjects are far more at ease, move around naturally, can talk and engage with others. Some business people actually get real work done when I am shooting. Converting these images to Black and White in post-production gives the photos an even greater authenticity.

Babson College Alumni Magazine

Here's a typical example of an alumni magazine shoot. We're in an old gym and have 10 minutes to shoot these alumni for the cover, before they head downstairs to an awards ceremony. Our designated location is a dumpy curtain, so we scramble for a new environment. I like the glass block wall, but the sun has long since set. With the help of some powerful strobes and a bit of photo knowledge, I'm able to light a nice clean cover for my clients. Within minutes our subjects arrive with the President of the Babson.
We were very fortunate in this case to have a woman in the shot, whose clothes and hair provided much needed color contrast, not to mention natural beauty. As in most cases, the 'pre-planned' location isn't right and thinking on your feet is required. All in all, a very successful shot.

Corporate Head Shots, Boston Bankers

The financial community in Boston always needs a clean head shot, I do loads of these. Sometimes they have a specific request such as a colored back drop, or I bring my own. We're always set up and ready to go before our subject arrives-
The most common usage for this kind of photography is either for the Web or press release use.

Babson College Student Photography

I've been working for Babson College in Babson Park, MA for a number of years. Recently we did a shoot of international students, and were lucky enough to use this gigantic globe at Babson as a prop. Educational photography is a nice break from corporate work, your subjects are younger, but even harder to schedule! Email seems to be the only way to reach college kids....
